Exotic and Unusual Ski Resorts

Lately, I've been focused on ski posts. Because I've been researching skiing and ski resorts for an article for Senses Magazine. A few months ago, the magazine contacted me and asked me to research and write about exotic ski resorts. Ever since, I've been fascinated with the number of places were you can enjoy the winter adventure. And you'll be surprised what I found. For those interested in learning about unusual places to ski, pick up a copy of Senses at your local bookstore. Not to be cruel, here's one of the destinations I wrote about:
Ski portillo
, ChileFrom its remote location and unconventional appearance to its epic ski runs, and world-class dining, Ski Portillo is committed to providing skiers with an unforgettable and enjoyable experience. To understand the unique individuality of Ski Portillo look no further than its location. Wedged in the heart of the Andes, Ski Portillo is the oldest ski destination in South America.
And the resort guests are truly isolated from civilization. There is no town, just a hotel, making Portillo its own exclusive community. The intimate hotel features modern amenities such as telephones, hairdryers, and safes. The double, suites, and apartments accommodations boast mountain and lake views, which serves as a form of entertainment: the rooms do not have televisions.
Skiing at the Portillo began in the 1880's and has remained the center of the resort. With an annual snowfall of 25 feet coupled with 300 days of sun, skiers of all ages and skill beckon from around the globe to one of the 15 trails, ranging from beginning to expert. Adrenaline seeking extreme skiers can head to Kilometro Lanzado, home to the world speed skating trails and several speed records, and Roca Jack, steep enough to require a special lift, the Va et Vient. For even more of an adventure, off-piste bowls and heli-skiing are available. Three slopes - El Pluma, El Corralito, and La Princesa - serve beginning or inexperience skiers. Portillo ski school also offers private and group lessons as well as camps for kids and persons with disabilities.
