GPS Rumors
Filed in archive Outdoor News on October 18, 2006
The rumor is out that The Boeing Co. is behind a massive upgrade of the Global Positioning System so near and dear to the hearts of all wilderness wanderers - whether on land, sea, or air. New satellites will allow GPS users to chart their positions with much more precision. The improved system will use a new civil signal called L-5, and will "complement the existing system."
Keep an eye out for further details - or if you have the full dish, please share with us.

This is some cool info! Will the upgrade affect current GPS gear? I wonder if individual handhelds may need to be upgraded too to handle the advances. I know you don't have all the details, just throwing the questions out there:)
