Hawaii: Big Island Blues Part Ten
Despite having some relatively serious big wave experience, and going fearlessly into waves as large as fourteen feet in the past, I was approaching this surf session with quite a bit more caution than the fun-loving couple on the longboard trying to ride tandem.

I have not surfed reef very often in the past, and this particular spot has a nasty side to it. Many people warned me about and talked of the shallow spots and holes in this reef that can be rather unpredictable. So even though it was barely two foot, I wasn't taking any chances, and because of my cautious approach I was able to avoid further cuts and scrapes to my feet. I say further because I had already accumulated numerous from my snorkeling and swimming forays earlier in the trip.
One thing I definitely learned about the Big Island on this trip was that there are not that many sandy beaches without sharp bottoms for people to relax on. Once I entered the aquatic world there, it was absolutely amazing, but taking care of the feet should be a definite consideration for anyone rolling over to Big Isle.
All outdoor sports endeavours in exotic locales like Hawaii and Costa Rica have their risks and their rewards. My job is to bring them to you, and I hope you enjoyed hearing about just a slice of what it can be like to take a trip to Hawaii.

I have traveled extensively in New Zealand, Australia and have lived in the Caribbean and the Middle East. I also loved my experience in Costa Rica, where I got to do a lot of surfing and diving. It was fantastic.
