Japan continues with commercial whaling under the guise of research

I am very much against the concept of hunting which involves killing animals for your own sadistic pleasure and as result I would like to bring to your notice this article related to whale hunting being carried out by Japan in Antarctica.

As per a global moratorium Japan agreed to abandon commercial whaling in 1986 but it seems Japan is suffering from memory loss and has been killing hundreds of whales as a part of their annual hunt in Antarctica waters. The current Japanese programmes aim to catch more than 1,000 whales per year. As per international rules a country is allowed to undertake hunting under research programmes but conservationists feel that Japan is abusing this law for sale and consumption of whale meat. As a result these campaigners have been involved in clashes with campaigners in recent weeks. In the month of January anti whaling activists blamed a Japanese vessel for ramming their high-tech speed boat during an altercation in Southern Ocean. A video captured showed the Japanese shop damaging Ady Gil, ship of the campaigners.

In wake of this act being carried out by Japan, Australia has threatened to take them to International Court of Justice in case whale hunting is not stopped. Australia enjoys the support of traditional allies such as EU, New Zealand and the US.

This deplorable action of Japan needs to be stopped so that we can prevent the whales from extinction. We all need to come together and stop Japan from killing these mammals for their self pleasure under the guise of research and take strict measures to stop it from carrying it out any further.
