Maine Line on Northeast Whitewater

Don't let the end of summer end your fun. When it comes to rafting in the Northeast, September and early October is the best time to hit the rapids.

River rafting in Maine begins on the first of May, but doesn't depend on summer heat to create exciting water flows. Thanks to hydropower dams creating daily water releases, Maine is the only state in the Northeast that can provide sufficient water levels for whitewater rafting and kayaking over a five-month season.

Special dam releases are scheduled for the following dates: On September 9 and 23 the Kennebec River will power up to 8,000 cubic feet per second. The Dead River will see releases on September 3, 16 and October 7 of up to 6,000 cfs.

Need more incentives? On average the price of a raft trip is discounted 15-30% in early fall, while water temperatures stay high – in the 60s after the long, hot summer.

The wildlife begins to venture out more, while tourists and their kids become quite scarce.

Last but not least, this is Maine. Imagine the fall foliage lining the banks of the rivers and you with a view you'll never get from a roadway. Make plans now at www.raftmaine.com.
