National Trails Day
Filed in archive Outdoor News on May 18, 2007
While hiking Stone Mountain for Backpacker magazine (the reason for the lack of posts), I saw a sign reminding everyone that June 2 is National Trails Day.
The idea of the holiday is to "inspire the public to flock to their favorite trails to discover, learn about and celebrate trails while participating in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops and trail work projects."
This year, events will take place in all 50 states including all of the provinces of the United States. In my hometown of Atlanta, The Georgia Appalachian Trail Club will feature two 6-mile free guided hikes, gear demonstrations, children's programs, educational exhibits, and complimentary water for hikers.
