Kayaker Breaks English Channel Record
It looks like the record has been broken again. Olympic medallist Ian Wynne smashed the record again by shaving another 22 minutes. He paddled across in 2 hours 59 minutes and 6 seconds.
The 29-year-old won a bronze medal in 2004 at the Athens Olympics in the 500m K1 kayak event.
Wynne said: "It was very different from short distance sprint racing that I have been used to, but I enjoy the challenge."
Canadian Racers Die in Kayaking Accident
A long training day turned to tragedy last Sunday on a kayaking trip between Anvil Island and Porteau Cove, 40 km north of Vancouver. Denis Fontaine and Richard Juryn both died while attempting to swim to shore in two-meter high waves and 84 kph winds, following a capsize.
Arapahoe Basin Opens Ski Season Oct. 11
Arapahoe Basin ski area officials announce that its opening day for the 2007-2008 ski season will be tomorrow, Wednesday, October 10, 2007. This marks Arapahoe Basin's earliest opening in its 61 years of operation. Last year the ski area was the first to open in the nation and this year A-Basin continues that trend.
