Cyclist Vinokourov's backup "B" sample confirms original finding for banned blood transfusion
Alexandre Vinokourov's backup sample has confirmed the original finding of a banned blood transfusion, a senior official said Saturday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case. The Kazakh rider and his Astana team were forced out of the Tour on Tuesday, when it was revealed Vinokourov had failed a doping test. Last Saturday, he tested positive after winning a time trial. On Monday, Vinokourov also won stage 15 - a tough climb in the Pyrenees.
Tour de France officials vow to stop working with world cycling body, want UCI chief to resign
Tour de France officials launched a two-pronged assault on the cycling governing body Saturday, with the director saying the Tour will stop working with UCI and the owner calling for cycling chief Pat McQuaid to step down. It's the latest move in a long-running feud between the two organizations, escalating this week after former Tour leader Michael Rasmussen and other cyclists were removed from the race because of doping suspicions.

British cyclist Bradley Wiggins declared this year's Tour de France "null and void" after he was unwittingly caught up in the doping scandals that have rocked the race. Wiggins' Confidis teammate, Cristian Moreni, was informed Wednesday he had tested positive for testosterone following the 16th stage. After finishing the stage in Gourette, Moreni was arrested and organizers requested the whole team quit the race.
