Outdoor News Update: Non Ski Resorts & A Letter from Tibet

Here's the best of the outdoor news I missed.
Letters from Tibet
In September, Colorado-born brother and sister Eric and Jennifer Ladd were part of a team that finished a 200-mile first descent on the upper section of the Salween in Eastern Tibet. Paddling Life was lucky enough to receive correspondence from them both. Following is their first-person accounts of the trip.
This is a place few, if any, Westerners have seen, especially given the response of the locals, children especially - they swarm us, sneaking ever closer to examine our strangeness. Earlier in the morning we arrived in Shading, a long three days of driving from Lhasa. Dirt roads with severe topography, high altitude passes, combined with drivers who prefer third gear, even if it requires them to accelerate on corners hovering over 3,000-foot drops, means we're not only thankful to be in this small Tibetan village, but to be alive.
Colorado Ski Resorts Get Big Snow
Aspen/Snowmass received a much awaited 30 inches of snow over the weekend. Aspen Skiing Company's Vice President of Mountain Operations, Rich Burkley, said: "This storm came through fast and furious. Aspen Mountain received 26 inches of snow from this storm cycle and Snowmass received 30 inches. Coupled with the low temperatures that are so great for snowmaking, we are well on our way to having a wonderful holiday season and an incredible rest of the winter season."
Non ski resorts: Gearing up for a future without snow
According to a New York Times report, ski resorts in Europe are making the necessary adjustments to continue attracting people to the resorts after global warming has all but eliminated the possibility to ski. Resorts are already investing in more snow making machines, but this alone won't solve the problem. Instead, in places like the Swiss Alps, ski resorts are beefing up their "off-slope attractions" and adding spas
, shopping, sun decks, pools, and funky architecture to attract non-skiers to snowless ski resorts.Permalink: Outdoor News Update: Non Ski Resorts & A Letter from Tibet
