Outdoor News Update: Six Snowmobilers Found & Dakar Rally Canceled
Here's the best of the outdoor news I missed.

6 missing snowmobilers are found alive

Six snowmobilers who were reported missing in heavy snow in the mountains of southern Colorado have been found alive, local officials said on Monday. The snowmobilers were two couples from New Mexico and their two children, ages 14 and 13. The snowmobilers had been listed as missing since Friday when a fierce storm hit the western United States. At least 11 deaths were blamed on the bad weather.

Famed car trek, Dakar Rally, canceled

Al-Qaida threats against the Dakar Rally and an attack in Mauritania forced organizers to cancel the annual race on Friday, the eve of the 5,760-mile trek across North African desert scrubland and savannah. It was the first time the automobile, motorbike and truck rally has been called off in its 30-year history. In a statement, organizers blamed "threats launched directly against the race by terrorist organizations."

Holiday Storm Brings Gift of Powder Conditions

Colorado skiers and snowboarders received the perfect gift from Mother Nature this holiday season as another massive snow storm made its way across the state. From the southwest corner of the state to the northwest region, the snow started falling on Friday and piled up at resorts leaving as much as 46 inches at Powderhorn, 47 inches at Steamboat and 41 inches at Howelsen Hill.
