Jack Mountain Bushcraft & Guide Service, based in Wolfeboro Falls, New Hampshire - known for providing the most comprehensive traditional wilderness living and travel courses available - has just announced its partnership with Western State College of Gunnison, Colorado, offering college credit for participants of Jack Mountain's Earth Skills Semester, Summer and Winter Programs. Through the agreement, students will receive 12 credits for the 10-week semester program and 5 credits for the three week winter program.
Russian sub plants flag under North Pole
Russian explorers dived deep below the North Pole in a submersible on Thursday and planted a national flag on the seabed to stake a symbolic claim to the energy riches of the Arctic. A mechanical arm dropped a specially made rust-proof titanium flag onto the Arctic seabed at a depth of 4,261 meters (13,980 ft), Itar-Tass news agency quoted expedition officials as saying.
Spielberg may resign as Olympic adviser
Beijing's Olympic organizing committee said Wednesday it didn't know Hollywood director Steven Spielberg might be planning to resign as an artistic adviser to the 2008 Games. Spielberg sent an open letter to President Hu Jintao in April urging China to take a harder line against Sudan over the Darfur crisis. Last week, ABC News and other U.S. media cited the director's spokesman Andy Spahn as saying Spielberg was considering dropping out of the Olympics because of China's inaction during the crisis.
