Ski Hall of Fame Inducts Three
Filed in archive Winter Adventures on October 11, 2006
Former Olympic and World Cup moguls champion Jony Moseley, ex-aerials and combined world and World Cup champion Trace Worthington and Alpine World Ski Championships medalist Julie Parisien have been elected to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2006.
Most Americans will remember Moseley from his shredding the competition at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, with his hell-raising "heli-mute grab" - a 360-degree spin while grabbing one ski - that he peeled off during his final run to win the gold.
Worthington was the 1986 Junior World Championships gold winner in aerials. He skied all three events on the World Cup, winning 37 times, including 27 combined wins and 10 aerials triumphs. Worthington was forced to retire before the 1997 season because of a vertigo-like ailment.
Parisien, at one point the No. 1-ranked slalom skier in the world, won numerous World Championships and World Cup events. She also skied in the Olympics and gathered four U.S. titles plus the bronze medal in super G at the 1989 Junior Worlds.
The Hall of Fame honors 349 athletes and ski industry pioneers. The formal induction will be at that Snowsports Industries America trade show in Las Vegas Jan. 22 through 24.
