The Outdoor Enthusiast Next Door: Robert Nebel (Part 2)
Filed in archive Interviews by Terah Shelton on June 26, 2007

How did you prepare for this trip/adventure?
I called the outdoor center a number of times with questions and I did a lot of Internet research. I remained skeptical through the preparation due to the fact that I was bringing my child on this trip. The Nantahala Outdoor Center quelled my fears as well as my wife who assured me that it is nothing like the Ocoee.
What influenced you to take this trip?
My wife is a major influence on all my trips. She encouraged me to become a travel writer since her parents have been doing it for many years. My wife nudges me to take on outdoor travel adventures. I then take the ball and run with it by making the trip happen through my coordination skills as a writer and video producer.
How did this trip change you as a person?
This trip stressed to me how important it is to get kids out into the wilderness. With so many things that keep kids indoors like school, homework, video games and TV, I'm afraid children are not getting enough exercise and time outdoors. Thankfully I have a wife who is on the same page with me when it comes to this issue. We are dedicated to bringing our daughter on the trips.
What's your next adventure? Where and why?
We are going to Ohio where we hope to hike the Cleveland area's excellent Metro Parks. When we are not doing that, we will take on the adventure of visiting family. I have quite a bit of catching up to do since I haven't been there in four years.
Name three items/gadgets essential to the outdoor lover and why.
In my case that would have to be a good wide brim hat, loads of sunscreen and a water bottle.
Thanks Robert!
