October 18, 1968: The U.S. Olympic Committee suspended two black athletes for giving a "Black Power" salute during a victory ceremony at the Mexico City games.
October 22, 1797: Andre-Jacques Garnerin made the first parachute jump from a balloon.
October 24, 1901: Anna Edson Taylor became the first person to survive going over Niagara Falls in a barrel.
