Vail Ski Resorts Delay Opening

A few days ago, I wrote a post about ski resorts offering alternate activities due to warm weather. Maybe the Vail Resorts should look into that.
It was announced today that the Vail Mountain ski areas will postpone opening because of warm weather. Instead of opening tomorrow, the resort will open on the day before Thanksgiving. Other ski resorts are also postponing their opening days.
Steamboat springs says it will open on Nov. 30 instead of Wednesday.
Andy Wirth, a spokesman for Steamboat owner Intrawest, says warmer weather is creating challenges for snowmaking machines. He says crews are working to manufacture more snow as the weather turns colder.
Vail Mountain Chief Operating Officer Bill Jensen says an expected shift in weather patterns should produce low temperatures that will allow his resort to step up snowmaking.
He says it appears the first significant storm of the season is expected next week.

I think delay opening is due to the balmy weather in Vancouver, which delayed some of the Olympic downhill events, highlights the danger warmer winters pose to ski resorts. The situation isn’t as dire in the higher-elevation resorts of the Rockies, but these large businesses.
