Weekly Recap
This week at the Outdoor Weblog, you learned that Mandy Moore dreams of hiking Kilimanjaro, five Americans were detained on Everest, and Best Odyssey released its first kiteboarding film. I also interview IT manager, Kraig Becker here and here.

On a sad note, we also learned about Jonathan Morrow and Alan Mooney's fall on Mount Teton. In honor of their memory, I posted my condolences for them, where readers and family members left comments.

Here's the rest of what I missed:

Veteran Climber Kellogg Dies in Denali. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. There's also a website set up in her memory.

Well-known climber Lara Kellogg suffered a rappelling accident on Alaska's Mt. Wake last week, falling to her death. The Seattle-based mountaineer, scientist and climbing guide was 38 years old. Lara Kellogg was a familiar face on many continents, having climbed extensively in the Himalayaslinks, China, South America, Yosemite, Alaska and elsewhere. Mt. Rainier was practically her backyard -- she summited the peak 37 times, often guiding expeditions to the top. She also volunteered for search-and-rescue missions in the area.

Maxut & Vassily SUMMIT Everest - without O2!

Alex Abramov has just released the news from Everest's north side ABC: "Seems like the first Everest summit this season has just taken place! One our ago, at 6 p.m. Chinese time, Vassily Pivtsov and Maxut Zhumayev have called on the radio from the summit of Everest!"

New Diving Record, Same Old Diver

Mandy-Rae Cruickshank of Canada has been training in the Cayman Islands since April 8th in an attempt to break the freediving world record of constant ballast (kicking down to depth and back with weights under your own power) during the 2nd PFI Cayman Competition. On day two of the competition, Mandy-Rae achieved a depth of 88m / 289ft on one breath of air, the equivalent of a 29 story building in a time of 2 minutes 48 seconds. This record was held previously by Natalia Molchanova of Russia at 86m / 282ft.
